ACUPUNCTURISTS

Laurel Axen, MS, L.Ac
Acupuncturist & Chinese Herbalist
www.ancientcurrent.com
Ph. 917.862.7589
I met Laurel when she was doing Bambino Boot Camp in Fort Greene Park. She has an upbeat attitude and is in amazing shape.  She has transitioned into being a full-time acupuncturist and herbalist when her daughter was about a year old. In her own words: "I really love to work with women through the entire process of conceiving, carrying and delivering babies. I work with all the aspects of conception through delivery and post-partum care: fertility treatments, breech presentation, labor preparation, and induction if the woman is past 41 weeks. I am also a labor doula and work with women during delivery."

She was written up in the NYTimes Sunday Magazine on October 16, 2005 for being a top fertility specialist. From the article: 'Jill is a fertility goddess,'' says Marisa Schwartz, a 39-year-old Brooklyn-based teacher who conceived two sons under Blakeway's care after trying unsuccessfully for five years.

Dr. Rong-Bao Lu
221-227 Canal Street
New York, New York
212-966-2178

He has been written up in the NY Times.  He is a licensed MD in this country and he integrates chinese practices like herbs and acupuncture for fertility and other things as well.  He has some sort of specific affiliation with a fertility center at Columbia, and he works with patients at other fertility clinics.  He would probably work with you however you want to go, but it is my understanding that it's good to give the herbs and acupuncture a little time to do their thing before initiating a round of ivf.  Good luck!

I went to Billy on the suggestion of my labor doula when my baby was breech. I went for one session to do moxiebustion. Within 10 seconds, (I am not kidding!) I felt a huge movement and told Billy so. He said, "Oh, it's unlikely the baby turned so fast...but who knows?". The next morning I went to get an ultrasound, and the baby had turned! Billy was thrilled and very humble about it. I have been back to him for various other needs: sciatica, balancing, etc and have been pleased each time. Very gentle soul.

Dr. Daniel Gardiner

I read at least 4 recommendations about Dr. Gardiner before deciding to take the plunge (honestly, I was nervous). Those 4 people were right: Dr. Gardiner is the real thing: educated, knowledgeable, and best of all, effective.  He helped me resolve some neck and back issues. Beware though: my insurance gave me 13 visits up front and because I didn't use them right away (by the first month), I lost those leftover visits. Apparently, this is common.

No one was at the spa the few times I went there so I felt like I was in my own private spa.  I had a prenatal massage and a bikini wax (yikes!)- but both were great and both providers were gentle and solicitous.

Stana is a labor doula that we interviewed pre-birth. At the meeting, she gave me a quick massage and I nearly melted. She used some acupressure and quickly relieved a very sore hip. I keep meaning to call her to try a full massage, as I think she would be excellent.
